The CARES Act is a bill signed by the President in 2020 in response to the COVID19 emergency. $13.5 billion has been ear marked for use in K-12 schools. The funds are distributed to the states based on their share of ESEA Title I-A funds. The state must then distribute at least 90% of funds to school districts and public charter schools based on their share of Title I-A funds. Districts can be used for planning for and coordinating long-term school closures, purchasing educational technology to support online learning for all students, and additional activities authorized by federal elementary and secondary education laws.
Title I’s goal is to ensure that students in high poverty schools meet academic standards. Funding supports services for students identified as at-risk or for all students in a schoolwide program.
How Readorium Aligns with Title I Funding
Readorium’s engaging programs support intervention students who struggle with nonfiction comprehension. Students learn the strategies and word learning skills needed to understand grade-appropriate science text. Support systems and readability levels automatically adapt to students’ reading levels.
Title III’s goal is to enable English Learners to improve English language proficiency and meet challenging state academic content and achievement standards.
How Readorium Aligns with Title III Funding
Readorium’s features enhance comprehension for English Learners. Learning is reinforced through simple explanations, videos, interactive vocabulary cards, pictures and charts, and read-alouds, as well as frequent concept-based questions and games. Throughout the text, an online mentor supports students as needed. Readorium is presented at students’ reading levels as they progress.
The newly enacted bipartisan Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) includes a flexible block grant program known as Student Support and Academic Enrichment Grants (SSAEG) under Title IV Part A, which was authorized at $1.65 billion in fiscal year 2017. Title IV, Part A authorizes activities in three broad areas:
- Providing students with a well-rounded educationincluding programs such as college and career counseling, STEM, arts, civics and International Baccalaureate/Advanced Placement.
- Supporting safe and healthy studentswith comprehensive school mental health, drug and violence prevention, training on trauma-informed practices, and health and physical education.
Supporting the effective use of technology that is backed by professional development, blended learning and ed tech devices.
How Readorium Aligns with Title IV Funding
Readorium’s content provides students with (1) a well rounded education with its libraries of STEM books, magazine articles, and videos that are based on the Next Generation Science Standards, as well as State Science Standards. Readorium supports (3) the effective use of technology since it is designed to help all students understand the same grade-appropriate science information. All chapters are written at 10-12 readability levels with the same information, graphics and academic vocabulary. The text levels, and the instructional supports students receive, automatically adjust to their individual needs as they use the program. Blended learning is advanced through multimedia and printable resources that teachers can use to target instructional deficits based on Readorium student progress data. Readorium provides all necessary professional development.
IDEA funds provide special education and related services to students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs). Also, 15% of IDEA funds may be used toward Response to Intervention (RTI).
How Readorium Aligns with IDEA Funding
Both students with special needs and intervention students benefit from Readorium because they read books at their own level and receive ongoing support throughout the program.
CCLC grants support the creation of community learning centers that provide academic enrichment opportunities during non-school hours for children, particularly students who attend high-poverty and low-performing schools. Awards are made to states and school districts compete for funding.
How Readorium Aligns with CCLC Funding
Readorium programs can provide the academic component for the CCLC programs. Students at all skill levels learn how to comprehend grade-appropriate concepts and improve reading skills. Students can use the program independently and/or with teacher support.
School improvement Grants are awarded to schools that demonstrate the need for the funds to provide resources in order to raise student achievement in their lowest performing schools. Awards are made to states and school districts compete for funding.
How Readorium Aligns with SIG Funding
Readorium’s goal is to increase nonfiction reading comprehension so that students become proficient readers. Readorium’s motivating programs support students as they read complex science text.
